Chicago songwriter Jack Riedy (pronounced “ree-dee”) and his brilliant backing band the Dealbreakers announce new single "My Friends Were Right," dropping on Bandcamp Friday May 1st.

"My Friends Were Right" is a pop punk rocker about finding love at a house party, featuring a singalong chorus supercharged by a full horn section. The song accurately conveys the sugar rush of a new romance; Jack first wrote the chorus as a 15-year-old high school student with a crush. "My friends had grand plans to introduce me to a girl from another school one weekend. This song was my fantasy of meeting someone who lived up to their hype, and of me doing the same for the her and her friends," he recalls. "I was in the middle of class when the main riff came to me. I had to draw music staff on scratch paper and note it down during an exam so I wouldn't forget it." "My Friends Were Right" is a teenage dream captured on tape by Brok Mende at Chicago's Friends Of Friends Recording.

RIYL: Joyce Manor, New Order, Streetlight Manifesto, Warped Tour

The Bandcamp single will also include exclusive tracks: instrumental, dance remix, dub.

Jack Riedy and the Dealbreakers will celebrate the new single with a show at Cole's Bar in Logan Square on Friday May 8th with Off Belay and Jack Moony and the Sun Drops. (tickets)

This is Jack's first studio single following Raw Deal, his 2025 debut album that earned praise from:

"Raw Deal lassos together rubbery funk bass lines, leaping jabs of ska guitar, and effervescent keys into unexpected arrangements that animate Riedy’s rambunctious melodies." -Chicago Reader

"hooky songwriting and immaculate basslines...Raw Deal is, simply put, the real deal." -Uproxx, Best New Indie
